The Jefferson County Real Property and Planning departments worked together to create the Solar Development Mapping Tool, in response to widespread solar development throughout Northern New York. This tool is intended to be used as a guide for solar developers as they seek out property for future solar development and for municipalities, who may wish to restrict development in certain parts of their community. The tool is for planning and development purposes only. The parcels were selected based on a number of parameters that are listed on the Planning Office webpage for Solar Development, as well as described in detail on the info section of the tool itself. All information is subject to variation and corrections that may result from field surveys or changes to any current solar development statuses.
A Solar Overlay is an analysis tool that designates specific areas where solar energy development is encouraged or regulated with guidelines. It helps balance renewable energy goals with land use planning by identifying optimal locations for solar projects while protecting other community interests. Please use the below provided Map to explore Areas Suitable for Solar Development in Jefferson County as well as the current Solar Projects and their statuses. The mapper includes a link to review the specific methodology and criteria used for this analysis.
