If you are charged with a traffic infraction, and seeking a potential reduction of your charge(s), please read the following information prior to beginning the course.
INFORMATIONAL PACKET FOR TRAFFIC REDUCTIONS

Traffic Reduction Program
You are Not Eligible to take this course and receive a reduction under the following circumstances:
- Speeds greater than 41 mph over the posted limit
- Speeds over 100 mph
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)
- Driving While Abilities Impaired (DWAI)
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (AUO)
- Reckless Driving
- Any Violations of the "Move Over Law"
- "Fix It" Tickets (VTL § 375 Section)
- Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Tickets
- Fail to Use Due Care for Emergency Vehicle (VTL 1144)
- Fail to Stop for (Overtake) School Bus (VTL 1174a)
- Suspended Registration
- Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident
- Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident
- Operating without Insurance
- Child Seat Belt Violation (VTL 1129 C1 -1129 C2)
- If You have had a reduction in the last 18 Months
- DEC/Environmental Conservation Tickets
Jefferson County District Attorney's Office Traffic Reduction Program Information:
- DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY ON YOUR TICKET IF YOU ARE SEEKING A REDUCTION AND INTEND ON TAKING THE COURSE.
- Enter a plea of "not guilty" in Section B on your Uniform Traffic Ticket (UTT) and mail a copy back to the court listed in the bottom left corner of your ticket (prior to the set appearance date).
- Notify the court you are intending to seek a reduction via the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office Traffic Reduction Program.
- In order to be eligible for a reduction, you must take and successfully complete the Traffic Safety Course, found at the link below, within 10 days of receiving your ticket.
- The course is a one time cost of $55.00 USD.
- Upon successful completion, our office will review the matter and provide a potential "offer of plea bargain" to a reduced offense via the email address provided.
- Be sure to check your spam/junk mail folder. The course completion certificate IS NOT AN OFFER.
- After receiving an offer, if it is acceptable, sign and mail this document to the court. No personal appearance is necessary; this process can be handled thorough the mail. Emailing a copy of your offer is not permitted.
- The court will assess any fines and surcharges (if applicable).
- Please be advised that all offers are final and are not negotiable.
"Fix It" Ticket Information (Section 375 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law):
- If you have fixed the problem no later than 1/2 hour after sunset on the first business day after receipt of ticket, contact the court for further instructions
- If you have fixed the problem outside of the above time period please forward a copy of your ticket and proof that the violation has been corrected to: traffic@jeffersoncountyny.gov
